September 18,2023 – 

Poppy, a victim of unspeakable cruelty and abandonment, is one step closer to finding justice thanks to the tireless efforts of Hillsborough County Animal Control and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. 

Poppy's harrowing journey began with her heartbreaking recovery as a surrender, she was found in deplorable conditions, suffering from severe neglect and cruelty.

Poppy was swiftly removed from her distressing environment and provided with the care and compassion she so desperately needed. Unfortunately, it was too late and Poppy had to be euthanized due to her condition. 

Today, we learned of the arrest of one individual in connection with Poppy's case. 

Jorge Alain Leon Iglesias has been charged with one felony count of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals and one misdemeanor count of Abandonment of Animals. 

This arrest marks a significant step towards achieving justice for Poppy and sends a clear message that animal cruelty and neglect will not be tolerated in Hillsborough County.

Poppy's story serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of reporting animal cruelty and abuse. It is thanks to the dedicated efforts of our law enforcement and animal control agencies that Poppy's suffering did not go unnoticed or unanswered.

Hillsborough County Animal Control and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office remain committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all animals within our community.

Together, we will continue to work tirelessly to protect and advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves.
